Kareem Michael Worrell’s Polaroid-based series “Wild Geese” explores themes of affection and longing among men of color in adult pornographic media. “Wild Geese” reinterprets the medium of pornography as a space of positive representation, community, and joy. Worrell’s work reframes the explicit, male-on-male imagery as visual representations of intimacy, vulnerability, and camaraderie among men. By using Polaroid film — an object-based medium — Worrell’s “Wild Geese” nods to the objectification of the black bodies within the films he draws from, while disarming their reductive gaze and shifting it to a more nuanced depiction of black and brown queer identity.
